Best AMD ReLive Settings for Recording Gameplay

Running an AMD GPU? You don't need third-party software to capture great gameplay. AMD ReLive, built right into the Adrenalin driver software, records clips with minimal performance impact — once you've dialed in the settings below.
What AMD ReLive is
ReLive is AMD's built-in recording and streaming feature, the equivalent of NVIDIA's ShadowPlay. It lives inside the AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition app and uses your Radeon GPU's hardware video encoder, so recording runs alongside your game without leaning heavily on your CPU.
Enabling ReLive
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.
- Go to the Settings gear, then the General tab (or the Recording & Streaming area, depending on your version).
- Turn on Record & Stream / ReLive.
- Open the Recording section to configure quality and hotkeys.
It's worth opening the in-app overlay (commonly Alt+R by default) to confirm ReLive is active and to access quick toggles mid-game. As with any overlay, hotkeys can be rebound if they clash with your game.
The settings that matter
Resolution
Record at your native resolution — matching your in-game output keeps everything sharp. Only downscale if you're short on disk space or your target platform won't display the extra detail.
Framerate
60 FPS is the go-to for smooth, shareable clips without ballooning file sizes. Higher capture rates exist for high-refresh setups, but 60 is the practical sweet spot for most players.
Bitrate
Bitrate drives quality more than anything else. Higher bitrate preserves detail in fast, busy scenes where compression artifacts show up most — at the cost of larger files. Use the table below as a starting point and adjust to taste.
Encoder
Choose the hardware encoder (AMD's AMF / hardware encoding, sometimes labeled per codec like H.264 or HEVC) for the lowest performance impact. HEVC can deliver similar quality at a lower bitrate than H.264, though H.264 is the most universally compatible for editing and uploading.
Recommended settings table
| Setting | 1080p | 1440p | 4K |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resolution | 1920x1080 | 2560x1440 | 3840x2160 |
| Framerate | 60 FPS | 60 FPS | 60 FPS |
| Bitrate | ~30 Mbps | ~50 Mbps | ~80+ Mbps |
| Encoder | Hardware (H.264/HEVC) | Hardware (H.264/HEVC) | Hardware (H.264/HEVC) |
These are starting points. If clips look soft during action, raise the bitrate; if files are too big, dial it back.
Instant Replay (the buffer)
Like ShadowPlay, ReLive includes an Instant Replay feature that keeps a rolling buffer of your gameplay so you can save moments after they happen. Enable it in the Recording settings and set the buffer length to match what you want to capture:
- Short (15-30s): quick highlights, smaller files.
- Medium (1-3 min): team fights and longer sequences.
- Long (5 min): plenty of lead-up, larger files.
Then bind the save hotkey to something easy to reach so saving becomes second nature. Leave Instant Replay on every session and you'll never miss a clutch moment again.
Audio and capture options
In the Recording settings you can choose to capture game audio, microphone, or both. Recording separate audio tracks where supported gives you more flexibility when editing montages later.
Share your AMD-captured clips
Once ReLive saves a clip, the next step is showing it off. Head to the upload page on FragClips to post your footage. Browse the Explore feed for ideas, and visit the game pages to find clips from the titles you play.
